Why am I even writing about this? Well, umami was a straightforward install. One docker compose and we’re done. It’s the database install that kicked my butt for a while.
I already had a MySql install, which I was hoping to run with umami. Turned out, I had MariaDB, something I hadn’t worked with before. And I was already using the database with another thing.
The two problems I faced were with these functions:
BIN_TO_UUID()UUID_TO_BIN()RANDOM_BYTES()
Turns out, support for these were added to MariaDB, but not in the version Ubuntu has in its package repositories.
What I had to do instead was then, look for a PPA that has the latest versions for Jammy, 22.04 (that’s the version i had on my DB server). And it looked like there wasn’t one. So I just went ahead and looked for the official documentation. The downloads page has beautifully setup the instructions and everything to add their package repository. Here’s the MariaDB repository for Ubuntu.
Yes, the solution was trivial, as in installing the latest version. But finding that the version was the problem was a little tricky. But Stack Overflow helped… a lot.
